NVIDIA Unveils New 4090 and 4080 Graphics Cards

NVIDIA, the company behind some of the most widely used graphics cards, has unveiled new products launching later this fall. The two new products revealed a few days ago include the GeForce RTX 4090 and the 4080. The more recent cards are the RTX 3090 Ti and the 3080Ti, and according to NVIDIA, it is almost double the speed of the previous generation graphics cards.

As part of the unveiling, they showed gameplay footage from games including Cyberpunk 2077 and Portal, and the results were some of the most stunning graphics I have ever seen.

One of the key features was what NVIDIA calls DLSS 3, which they describe as using AI-powered graphics to boost performance. The Cyberpunk 2077 showcase showed what the performance was like with DLSS on and off, and the results were shocking. Cyberpunk 2077 is notoriously difficult to run, even on some high-end computers with powerful graphics cards. With DLSS turned off, the game was clocking in at an average of 22 frames per second but with DLSS turned on, it was getting an average of 100 frames per second. Aside from the fps boot, the graphical improvement with the 4090 doesn’t just feel like a slight jump but an enormous leap.

The old saying, “You get what you pay for,” holds true with the cost of this new graphics card with a starting price of $1600. While it is a lot of money, I honestly wasn’t surprised, given the quality of graphics it produces. I’m just salivating thinking about how fast one of those cards will be able to render a fluid simulation.
