DMC Render Challenge – Results and Review
One of the best parts about a community like SCAD is the opportunities students have to express their creativity. Not only can students use their classes to work on projects, but they can also get involved in many different clubs that act as hubs for creative minds.
Last week, SCAD’s Digital Media Club hosted a 24-hour render challenge, where members were tasked with rendering a 3D scene from a given theme in a single day. Judged by Chairman Marshall and Professors Witte, Steele, and Murphy, featured below are the top 3 winners of this challenge, following the theme: Garden!
In third place, Zachary Malich used Blender and Nuke to create a beautifully comforting garden, enclosed in a forest of blooming pink trees.
In second place, Anderson Yang, using a sci-fi approach in Maya and V-Ray, created this chic futuristic environment.
Last but not least, first place was given to Drew Daly, who created this elegant and gorgeous render of a lush brook. The scene was created in in Maya, rendered in Arnold, and composited in Nuke!
Each submission is gorgeous in its own way. They really showed the different takes individual artists can have on the same prompt.
The DMC is planning to host yet another Render Challenge this summer and participation is highly encouraged.
These challenges are wonderful opportunities for experimentation, practice, and getting one’s creative mind running! Furthermore, they are also great ways to connect with other artists, and expand your network.
Once again, congratulations to all artists that participated. Keep an eye out for future DMC-hosted challenges; I, for one, am looking forward to seeing more exemplary student work in the future!
