Join GDN this Friday 10/25 for Jam Stomp!

This Friday, October 25th, the Game Development Network will be hosting a new event called Jam Stomp in Monty 209 from 12-8pm!

Every year at the end of January, SCAD hosts a chapter of Global Game Jam. Global Game Jam participants have 48 hours to build a playable game from scratch, based on a prompt. To help SCAD students prepare for Global Game Jam (and similar events), Jam Stomp will be a full-day workshop going over every step of making a full game. Like all GDN meetings and events, Jam Stomp is open to students from all majors.

The GDN officer team recommends that you stay for the full event, but in case you can only stay for part of the day, the schedule will be as follows:

12:00 to 1:00pm: Planning

  • How to plan for a game jam
  • Managing the time and scope for your team’s game
  • Importance of team roles

1:00 to 3:00pm: Modeling and UVs

  • 3D art asset creation in Maya 2019
  • UV projections and layouts 

3:00 to 4:00pm: Texturing

  • 3D texturing in Substance Painter

4:00 to 5:00pm: Break

  • Break

5:00 to 7:00pm: Unreal Engine

  • Introduction to Unreal Engine
  • Importing materials/textures
  • Lighting/Landscapes
  • Damage
  • Moving platforms

7:00 to 8:00pm: Review

  • Free time!
  • Whatever tool you enjoyed most, this is time to experiment with it further and ask questions
